100 years of Mari fine art: national neo-romanticism (1960–1980s)

Introduction. This article continues a series of publications dedicated to the 100th year Mari fine arts. National neo-romanticism appeared at late Soviet stage. It is important clearly identify it and determine itы place in process under study. Materials Methods. The research methods are based on author’s cultural archetypal approach. items art, archival documents, media publications, catalogs were provided by museums Republic El. Results Discussion. Culture period, as background national neo-romanticism, characterized an anthropological change, demand for sincerity expression individuality. Within its framework, unofficial various forms artistic escapism arose. ethnical theme brought main innovations into ‘severe style’ Autonomous Socialist Republic’s art. Visiting Russian artists, A. S. B. Pushkovs, F. Podmarev, I. Butov, introduced concept “Mari El” vocabulary Republic, created iconographic type traditional Birch Woman archetypes, thereby contributed development new archetype. emerged from simultaneously formed. Its essence poetization native culture. Z. Lavrentyev implemented it, first, through book graphics be one determinants ethnocultural reflection. A special role was played young artists N. V. Toktaulov, Efimov, M. Yamberdov. Conclusion. (1970–1980s) stage arts originated within socialist realism (1940–1980s).
